A Slice of Duval Spring Fling The Block Jax
Events #CoastalLiving, #JaxEvents, JacksonvilleSome people spent the morning of March 28, 2026 being productive. We chose a better path.
We headed to A Slice of Duval: Spring Fling at The Block Jax, where the plan was beautifully unhinged: bring a cake, admire classic cars, dress like you raided a 1950s dream closet, and fully commit to the kind of joy that only comes from frosting and vintage Americana before lunch.
We were there from about 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., which meant we got a full morning of retro fun, sweet treats, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you forget errands ever existed.
And yes, we dressed the part.
John showed up in jeans and a red, white, and black bowling shirt, looking like he was one jukebox quarter away from becoming employee of the month at a diner that serves pie the size of hubcaps. I went with the full red poodle skirt, black top, and red neck scarf combo, because if an event politely invites you to lean into the theme, the correct answer is not “maybe.” The correct answer is “find the scarf.”
And because apparently we do not believe in arriving quietly, we also brought a chocolate and whipped cream fruit cake.
Now, if you have never walked into an event carrying cake while dressed like you are on your way to a sock hop, I highly recommend it. It gives the morning a certain cinematic nonsense. Suddenly you are not just attending an event. You are part of the decor. Part of the plot. Possibly part of a very sugary small-town rebellion.
What made A Slice of Duval so much fun was that it knew exactly what it was. It was not trying to be restrained or overly polished. It was a cake party with classic cars and retro flair. It embraced the whimsy. That is not an event concept someone dreamed up while drinking water and being sensible. That is a glorious sugar spiral, and Jacksonville is better for it.
The setting helped too. The Block Jax was a perfect backdrop for this kind of event because its open-air, walkable layout gives people room to wander, snack, mingle, and admire everything from the cars to the outfits to the desserts people absolutely swore they were only having “a bite” of.
There was also something extra fun about seeing Jacksonville show up for a concept this playful. It takes a special kind of crowd to say, “Yes, I would love to spend my Saturday morning in themed clothing around cake and chrome,” and then actually follow through. Respect. Deep respect.
Events like this are exactly why places like The Block Jax stay on our radar. They give people an excuse to get out, try something different, laugh a little, dress up a lot, and remember that not every outing has to be serious to be memorable. Sometimes the best local events are the ones that feel a little ridiculous on paper and absolutely delightful in real life.
So yes, A Slice of Duval: Spring Fling delivered. Cake, cars, costumes, and enough retro charm to make the whole morning feel like Jacksonville briefly wandered into its rockabilly era and decided to stay there until the frosting ran out.
And honestly, we support that.
